Overview

OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies qualification is designed to provide learners with an in-depth understanding of the operations and structure of businesses. Successful completion of this course will equip learners with the underpinning knowledge and skills required to succeed in employment or further studies.

Entry Requirements

  1. OTHM Level 3 qualifications can be offered to learners from age 16. OTHM does not specify entry requirements for these qualifications. OTHM ensures that learners admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment criteria.
  2. OTHM Centre must ensure learners are recruited with integrity onto appropriate qualifications that will meet their needs, enable and facilitate learning and achievement enable progression. The qualification is offered in English.
  3. English requirements: If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country must provide evidence of English language competency

Equivalences

OTHM qualifications at RQF Level 3 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to GCE AS/A Levels.

Qualification Structure

The Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies qualification consists of 4 mandatory units plus 2 optional units for a combined total of 60 credits, 600 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 360 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

  1. Introduction to Research and Academic Skills (10 credits)
  2. Using IT for Business (10 credits)
  3. Introduction to Economics and Accounting (10 credits)
  4. Introduction to the Business Environment (10 credits)

Optional Units: Choose Any TWO

  1. Introduction to Customer Service (10 credits)
  2. Managing Business Events (10 credits)
  3. Introduction to Marketing (10 credits)
  4. Introduction to People Management (10 credits)

Duration And Delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over 6 months for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. 

 

The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment And Verification

  1. All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

     

  2. To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor.

  3. The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Progression

Successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies qualification enables learners’ direct entry into Year 1 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree or pursue Level 4 Diplomas. 


As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), many universities acknowledge the ability of learners after studying Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies and consider for direct entry into a range of their Bachelor’s degree programmes.

Specifications

How do remote exams work?

There is one multiple-choice knowledge exam and one scenario-based assessment. You must pass both to complete the qualification. Both the exam and assessment are undertaken online and remotely invigilated. 

 

This means you can take them, under exam conditions, at home, work or wherever you are. Remote invigilation takes place online using a specialist exam platform and security software. This gives you flexibility on where you take your exams as long as you have a stable internet connection, but they are delivered using robust procedures just like attending a test centre. You are observed and recorded online using cameras and a shared screen. 

 

Once your exams are scheduled, you will be sent clear instructions on how to prepare and test your equipment ahead of the exam. You will need to have a laptop with a built-in camera, microphone and speakers, along with a smart phone to use the exam platform and remote invigilation.
