Who Should Enrol?
Suitable for HSE Officers, Advisors, Engineers, Supervisors and Managers whose responsibilities provide opportunities to demonstrate occupational health and safety competence.
Applicants must be 18 or over and have access to relevant workplace activities and evidence. No specific prior academic qualification is mandatory. An initial assessment confirms whether the programme matches the applicant’s experience and responsibilities.
Course Content
The programme covers four key areas of professional practice:
- Risk control and positive safety culture
- Health and safety communication and workforce competence
- Proactive and reactive monitoring
- Performance review and behavioural safety
Complete eight mandatory units and at least two optional units, achieving a minimum of 97 credits. Optional subjects include contractor management, safety inductions, policy development, emergency response and improvements in professional practice.
Assessment
Workplace evidence, not traditional written examinations.
Learners build a portfolio showing their knowledge, practical skills and personal contribution to workplace health and safety. Evidence must meet the assessment requirements for each selected unit. Certification follows successful assessment and the required quality-assurance checks.

IOSH Recognition and Career Progression
This IOSH-accredited diploma meets the qualification requirement for Certified IOSH Membership (CertIOSH). Applicants also need at least two years of relevant professional experience and must satisfy IOSH’s continuing professional development and membership requirements.
CertIOSH members can progress towards Chartered Membership (CMIOSH) through IOSH’s Professional Development Assessment. Membership requires a separate application and is not awarded automatically with the diploma.

How do remote exams work?
There is one multiple-choice knowledge exam and one scenario-based assessment. You must pass both to complete the qualification. Both the exam and assessment are undertaken online and remotely invigilated.
This means you can take them, under exam conditions, at home, work or wherever you are. Remote invigilation takes place online using a specialist exam platform and security software. This gives you flexibility on where you take your exams as long as you have a stable internet connection, but they are delivered using robust procedures just like attending a test centre. You are observed and recorded online using cameras and a shared screen.
Once your exams are scheduled, you will be sent clear instructions on how to prepare and test your equipment ahead of the exam. You will need to have a laptop with a built-in camera, microphone and speakers, along with a smart phone to use the exam platform and remote invigilation.
